The symbol acts like a switch on your neural networks. As soon as you see it, you receive a powerful data burst. Suddenly, you remember everything. Your name is <h5>[[L.U.P.O.]]</h5>, you are an AI-driven automaton and you serve as a co-pilot in the vehicle you are in, the Infinite Titan, hailing from planet <h5>[[Erion 9->Erion]]</h5>.
<br>
The two men sleeping in their cryopods are <h5>[[The Sarge]]</h5> and <h5>[[The Wülff]]</h5>. At this point, they should be awake and taking care of the procedures for landing on planet <h5>[[Ktolon]]</h5> below you, but this is not the case. If you had time, you'd launch a full diagnostic on the ship's systems, to figure out what went wrong during the approach sequence, but there are more urgent matters that need your attention.

//Erion 9//
<br>
A small, habitable planet rich in water and fertile land. It is powered by an unknown energy source which flows out of its core. The origin of this power is unknown, but it is believed to have allows an abundance of life forms to thrive and evolve on the planet's surface.
<br>
Among these life forms, the oldest and most evolved is that of wolves. Other sentient beings consider them to be the protectors of the planet.
<br>
Throughout Erion's history, wolves and men have established a deep bond of kinship and collaboration. Together, they share the duty of protecting the Stele of Laar, an ancient artifact that represents the pact of brotherhood between all living things on Erion.
<br>
To do this, wolves and men are able to summon the Hyperwülff, a colossal wolf-like creature which serves as guardian of the Stele against out-world threats.
<br>
In recent history, Erion 9 suffered the attack of Robogoat, an alien machine that was seeking to drain the energy from the planet's core. Its invasion culminated in the Battle of Erion, which left the planet as a barren wasteland.
<br>
Robogoat and Hyperwülff disappeared after the battle. The Stele of Laar was smuggled off-planet by the few members of the human resistance who survived.

The shock he sustained during the Battle of Erion gained him the ability to communicate with the spirit of the great Wolf. Thanks to this , the two space castaways are able to act as a channel between The Hyperwülff and the physical world.

The Titan's operating system seems to have forgotten even the most basic rules of planetary re-entry. It set a completely wrong angle of encounter with Ktolon's atmosphere.

You need to take care of this immediately!

The ratio between your speed and Ktolon's atmospheric density indicates an optimal angle of attack of 29 degrees.

<br>
A deadly silence falls within the cockpit. Even the emergency life support systems failed to activate. The precious life you are escorting is destined to drift away in cold space forever. You'll have time to think about what went wrong. At least, while your power cells keep you alive.

You chose the correct angle of attack. After a few bumps, the Infinite Titan safely enters Ktolon's atmosphere. You're still too high to see the surface of the planet, but the frozen cloud formations you are traveling through give you a clear measure of how cold temperatures are on this planet.
<br>
After a few seemingly endless minutes, you start noticing the shape of majestic mountain systems, covered in ice and swept by storms The autopilot is still not working, so you start fumbling with the flight controls. Suddenly, a huge blast rocks the whole ship. The stabilizers! Two out of eight stopped working. The Infinite Titan starts tilting on its side, its nose pointing dangerously downward. If you don't regain control you'll crash in just a few minutes. You are ready.

The ship quickly loses thrust, and your attempt to lift the nose back up is defeated by the speed you have already gained.
<br>
Your maneuver was too blunt. The aircraft suddenly tilts downward and starts spinning. The centrifugal force is so strong that it pulls you away from the controls. As top and bottom start blurring into each other, a parade of alarms and warning signs announce that the ship is about to tear apart. The Infinite Titan shakes violently under the forces of friction, and after a few moments breaks in half.

Nothing can be done to save the crew. The ship is now a wreck in freefall.

After ensuring that the <h5>[[Stele of Laar]]</h5> is intact, you approach a porthole and look outside. The scenery is both hostile and fascinating: black rock shimmering fiercely against the bluish hue of the snow. No trace of vegetation.
<br>
The Sarge and The Wülff chose this place as a landing ground because it is halfway between the two points of interest you see marked on the planet's map. However, this place might not be as quiet as it looks.
<br>
Your new mission is to scout at least one of those two locations, gathering information and details on the potential dangers that the crew will have to face.

Before proceeding, the protocol requirest that you awaken the rest of the crew. Once you start the sequence, it will require a few hours to complete, giving you enough time to explore the points of interest.

<br>
The planet is sure colder than what the rest of the crew will like, but the radiation coming from its star are excellent for the solar panels of the equipment you are installing: a small polarized antenna and a nano-bar bore. You will use these to get real-time information about the surface of the planet and its underground. You climb on top of a small hill and find the perfect spot.
<br>
While you wait for the equipment to begin operation, you stop and admire the landscape. Far away, you hear the sound of an avalanche mixing with the hiss of the wind. The streets opening before you are completely empty and in obvious decay. It looks like nobody has inhabited this city in decades, maybe centuries.
<br>
Your encyclopedic archives suggest that finding the mainframe building might allow you to find precious information on what happened to the planet in the last few centuries.
<br>
You start walking further into the city following a large boulevard when your seismic sensors detect some weak underground activity coming from an area close to you. It might be worth investigating the source of that signal.

The dome doesn't show any base or junction: it's as if a titan had placed a large glass cup on top of the city.
<br>
The watery surface that you saw glisten from a distance is made up of a material you don't recognize, which has the remarkable property of allowing organic matter in while regulating airflow, temperature and humidity. This creates the ideal environment for the citizens of the city.

You walk past an endless series of buildings in varying degrees of neglect. The closer you get to the source of the signal, the darker and dilapidated the surroundings become. In some points, it even seems that the buildings were taken apart by hand, piece by piece.
<br>
You finally get to a large hole on the ground. From the depths of that chasm comes a low hum, combined with what sound like sobs and groans.
<br>
You sure don't like the atmosphere around this place, but this could be the only chance you get to establish contact with the local population. You decide to dive in.

The grandiose structures of this urban environment captivate you. You can almost imagine how it should have been living here, back when this place was populated. Among the debris that litters the ground, you notice the monorails from the city's transport system. You follow their trajectories with your eyes, from the ground up above streets and dilapidated buildings. It must have required a considerable effort <h5>[[to build all this->DESCRCUP2]]</h5>.
<br>
Despite how interesting all this is to look at, you can't seem to locate it on the map you have. The signs of decay and devastation you meet as you walk are a tough challenge for your sense of direction. You find yourself wandering around squares and boulevards, feeling like you have been there before. On your sides, a maze of alleys retreat into the guts of the city through a series of <h5>[[dark, shady corners->ANGOLO BUIO]]</H5>.

Once your optical sensors adapted to the underground darkness, you look around and realize you are not alone. In front of you, two <h5>[[humanoid figures->DESCR UOMINI TALPA]]</h5> are busy dragging some large piece of scrap metal. They haven't noticed you yet. You remain completely still and run a biometric scan on them to acquire some information. As you're doing this, one of the creatures stops in its tracks and emits a strange clicking sound. The other seems to ignore this and keeps clawing at the piece of metal lying on the ground.

A glimpse at the corner of your vision draws your attention. Another creature is hiding in the darkness and is looking at you. It must have realized that you're doing the same, because it starts gurgling menacingly. The other two immediately turn towards him and notice you. The tunnel you come from is not connected in any way to the rest of the structure; you are forced to climb the wall downward while relying on all the precision that your joints are capable of. The sound of the creatures' furious digging becomes louder as you progress.
<br>
Halfway down you take a brief pause to reassess your options. You glance at the nest and become captivated by (link: "<h5>the actions of the mole-men</h5>")[(goto: "DESCRCOL")]. You regret not having enough time to analyze them empirically and get back on your way.
<br>
As you start your descent again, you step on a chunk of rock that collapses under your weight and falls into the abyss, bouncing several times against the side of the cavern. The echo rips through the air like a scream, and suddenly you sense hundreds of faces pointed at you. Immediately, a group of creatures moves in your direction and prepares to rush at you.

On this planet, even the light of sunset has an ice-cold quality that you didn't expect. You make your way back to the Titan as you watch the pale yellowish reflections of the last sun reflect against the ktolonite.
<br>
You think back to the information you have gathered about the planet's past. The settlers of Ktolon discovered an immense power connected to the material of which the planet itself is made. Inebriated, they harnessed it to prosper. But their protracted greed had a terrible consequence: a mysterious event, after which the inhabitants began to turn against themselves, and within a few months decimated their numbers, eventually leaving the ruins you found when you arrived.

You can't shake off the thought that you have failed the mission you were entrusted with. Yet, your technology is so advanced, your databases are state-of-the-art and so fast. You don't understand how this could have happened.
<br>
You look up and absorb the view of this desolate planet: the cold light of sunset washes over the bare rocks and frozen snow, sending fleeting reflections back into the lenses of your eye sensors. The subdued rumble of volcanic activity beneath the surface lulls your thoughts, directing them toward a realization that continues to elude your intellect.
<br>
You have the impression that there is a reason behind your failure. That everything on this planet is connected by a hidden order that you would understand if only you had the time to stop and study. If only you had time to listen to the sound of the icy wind, trace the trajectories of neutrons passing through your body, calculate the impacts of photons on your solar panels... You are sure that all this would make sense and all the secrets of Ktolon would be revealed to you.
<br>
As you try to digest these thoughts, you reestablish eye contact with the Infinite Titan. The floodlights are on to combat the looming darkness. In their cones of light, you see two human figures moving. Unescapably human, you think. Before long, those figures will face the same trials you have faced in an attempt to reach the truths that have eluded you.
<br>
You feel some melancholy at the thought, but your behavioral inhibitor immediately blocks it and brings your attention back to the return route. The silhouette of the Titan on the horizon line beckons you. It is no longer time to worry about your mission's success; soon you will be able to rest.

As you wait intrigued by that activity, you hear another mole-man quickly approach from the tunnel behind you. It snorts and runs on all fours hurling at the first one, which reacts by crouching down, ready to charge.
]
<br>
The attacker seems to be aiming directly at the metal tangle lying on the ground, but the owner is not willing to give up the loot.
<br>
The two snarl at each other, then lunge forward, striking heads, biting and throwing powerful slashes with their large claws.
<br>
After less than a minute of this frenzied duel, the first manages to deliver a fatal blow, and opens a large gash between the other's neck and head. A bright, dark stream of blood decorates the tunnel's cold walls.
<br>
Still panting, the winner retrieves its precious junk and retraces the tunnel in the direction it came from and disappears into the darkness.
<br>
The rival is drawing its last breaths. You do not bother with him and hurry away.

You walk around the base of the mountain until you get under a very high wall that leads to the top. You study it carefully. Its crystalline nature makes it almost completely smooth. You had never observed anything like it in person. An old chemical classification is in your database: what you have before you is nearly pure ktolonite, extremely difficult to scratch. However, the exterior, having been exposed longer to atmospheric contamination, has structural imperfections and could easily yield to your climbing claw. You hope it will be enough to keep you from being swept away by the power of the landslide, which in seconds is upon you and overtakes you with a violent whoosh. Leaning over you watch it plummet toward the valley floor, and in a few moments all is calm and still again. The unforgiveness of these places has tested you once again, and luck has been on your side.

//Stele di Laar//
<br>
An ancient relic that holds the power to awaken the Hyperwülff, the colossus that protected planet Erion. After the destruction of the planet, the Stele is the only thing that holds Him tied to this space-time dimension.
<br>
The Stele has never been activated outside of its mother planet. Despite this, Sarge and Wülff hope that they'll be able to use it to contact the Ktolon colossus.

You point your claw at the mole-mans and fire, in a desperate attempt to slow them down. After a short parabola, the hook drives into the stone a few feet below, not bothering your opponents in the least.
<br>
As they tear into your abdomen with their claws, you can't help but think how stupid your idea was.
<br>
You look down. Your energy core is exposed and pulsing ever so faintly. You shut down hopelessly in the darkness of that cavern.
<br>
The mission is failed.
